Phimosis is a physiological deformity that is more common in males. At initially, their skin stays in place on its own. Boys learn to draw their foreskin back and push it forward when they experiment with their genitalia and the natural links between the foreskin's inner surface and the penis's head weaken. Though most young men reach this milestone by the age of 7, there are always exceptions.
Men and boys as young as 13 can develop pathologic phimosis. A naturally tight ring at the foreskin's tip, poor hygiene, infection, or inflammation are all potential causes. Paraphimosis occurs on occasion. It's similar to phimosis, except the foreskin can't be pushed forward again once it's been pulled back.
Treatment Options
To treat phimosis, a doctor may recommend using a steroid cream. The foreskin is made more pliable by this cream, which facilitates back and forth motion. Typically, the cream is applied at the very end of the foreskin. You may be able to conduct some light stretching after two weeks. Patients (or their guardians) should be shown the proper way to perform these stretches.
In severe cases of phimosis, surgical removal of the foreskin (circumcision) may be necessary. Even if some of the foreskin is removed, phimosis may return.
Another surgical option is preputioplasty, often known as a dorsal slit, in which an incision is made to stretch and loosen the foreskin. The foreskin remains intact, but the retraction and protraction motions should be less taxing.
Paraphimosis
In cases of paraphimosis, where the foreskin is stuck in a retracted posture, manual treatment may be an option. The doctor will typically numb the area with a topical anesthetic before manually pulling the foreskin forward. (Please note that only a medical professional should perform this procedure.) Surgery may be required if the paraphimosis is severe.
In order to prevent further complications, such as tissue death, paraphimosis is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
Summary
Don't use excessive force to yank your foreskin back. I've heard that this is pretty painful. In addition, it can cause minor incisions, the scars from which make it more challenging to reposition the foreskin. Acquired phimosis, also known as disease-related phimosis, describes this condition. It's also possible for the foreskin to get caught behind the penis's (glans') head if it's too tight. A ring like this might be used to sever the capillaries that supply the eyes. We refer to this as paraphimosis. A doctor should be consulted immediately because this is a medical emergency.
It is not necessary to completely retract the foreskin in order to clean the penis throughout the first few years of a person's existence. The outside can be washed in a regular washing machine. Cleaning the area between the foreskin and the penis head with a cotton swab could be painful or damaging to the delicate skin there. Learn more about Ayurveda's penile improvement treatments.
